Crafting Together: Family Style
I recently had dinner with this wonderful group of ladies that I've been meeting up with for over 10 years. We came together for a Bible challenge competition that has long past, but our friendship and sisterly love remain.
Over dinner one of the ladies asked for suggestions on a craft activity to do with her family during an upcoming vacation. I was all in for this idea because I strongly believe that a meal should not be the only thing that brings a family together around a table.
Her criteria was simple:
- Entertain a group of women ranging from teens to seniors
- Appeal to a wide range of crafting abilities
I added my own criteria:
- Giftable. Projects that can also serve as gifts provide double the fun - fun when creating it and fun when giving it. If gifting is not the goal, at least make sure it's something that can be re-purposed or is easily recycled.
- Personable. Projects that allow for adding personal touches or expressing personal style generate the most creative energy. Part of the fun of crafting is taking something and making it your own.
- Transportable. Projects that don't require a large haul of supplies or specialty items work best. Think about the finished project, too — it shouldn't be an inconvenience to transport it home because it's large, wet, fragile, or awkward. Keep it simple. Your suitcase will thank you and so will your wallet.
