Crafting Together: Family Style
I recently had dinner with this wonderful group of ladies that I've been meeting up with for over 10 years. We came together for a Bible challenge competition that has long past, but our friendship and sisterly love remain.
Over dinner one of the ladies asked for suggestions on a craft activity to do with her family during an upcoming vacation. I was all in for this idea because I strongly believe that a meal should not be the only thing that brings a family together around a table.
Her criteria was simple:
Entertain a group of women ranging from teens to seniors
Appeal to a wide range of crafting abilities
I added my own criteria:
Giftable. Projects that can also serve as gifts provide double the fun - fun when creating it and fun when giving it. If gifting is not the goal, at least make sure it's something that can be re-purposed or is easily recycled.
Personable. Projects that allow for adding personal touches or expressing personal style generate the most creative energy. Part of the fun of crafting is taking something and making it your own.
Transportable. Projects that don't require a large haul of supplies or specialty items work best. Think about the finished project, too — it shouldn't be an inconvenience to transport it home because it's large, wet, fragile, or awkward. Keep it simple. Your suitcase will thank you and so will your wallet.
