Courageous Storytelling

I like nothing about this photo.

I especially don't like ME in this picture. My hair is not perfect. The angle is weird. The sky is overcast. My facial expression is not pleasant. My outfit isn't cute. My pose is unflattering. It's exactly the type of picture I usually delete so it won't remind me of this imperfect moment.

It's also the type of photo I've decided to keep. And here's why.

One of my goals for this year is becoming a more courageous storyteller, starting with the story of myself. In documenting the story of my life through memory journaling, I'm noticing that it's always the good stuff, the happy memories, the perfectly captured smiles that get all the attention.

While all of this goodness has been my truth, it wasn’t a complete record of my life. It was a carefully curated version of it. My vision was to go for more of the realness you see in IG stories over the glossy, polished, rehearsed feel of the IG feed.

Here's where my courage comes in. 

I will pull back the curtain a bit and begin sharing the more imperfect pieces of me in my journaling. More candids and less poses. More random and less staged. More shots of every day and not waiting for special occasions. More "ugly" photos telling the perfect story of my imperfect life.
