Carnations for Mother's Day
Happy Mother’s Day!
The most popular Mother's Day flower is the carnation. Carnations have long been associated with motherly devotion. It's believed that Mary, mother of Jesus, shed tears at the foot of his cross. As she cried, her tears turned into beautiful carnations.
When I was a little girl, my mom would buy us carnation corsages for Mother's Day. A red one for me because my mother was living. A white one for her because her mother was deceased. This year is my first Mother's Day wearing a white carnation. As I remember my mom on this day, my heart is full of joy. I'm grateful for all the ways she set me up for success in life. She was my #1 fan. I miss her.
This red and white polka dot shirtdress by Draper James was the ideal choice to pair with my white carnation. It has a tie neck that I chose to wear as a belt. The purse belonged to my mom and matched perfectly with the embossed-leather heels currently on sale at White House Black Market.
