Being Bad At Something New (Video)
If you want to watch me being bad at something new, scroll to the bottom of the post to see the video.
This was in my fortune cookie from dinner a few nights ago. It's more funny than prophetic because the day before this I'd been notified that I'd won 2nd place in a video contest sponsored in the Crafted Cocktails Facebook group.
I had been hesitant to submit my entry because there were so many things about the video that had me like ššš. I feel awkward talking on camera and I don't like the sound of my voice. I also had the wrong mirroring settings on my camera and other rookie mistakes. š¤¦š¾āāļø
I submitted it anyway, won a prize, and reflected that the goal is progress and not perfection.
The lesson here is that it takes courage to be bad at something new. Each time I watch the video playback, I cringe. I have to gently remind myself that this is part of the learning curve and that most beginners are bad, but they get better with practice and repetition.
Have you ever been bad at something, then courageously worked at it to get better? If so, tell me about it in the comments. I could use the encouragement.
