Welcoming Spring & The Call of Tulips
While the human race is gripped with panic and anxiety, COVID-19 seems to be offering nature a reset and recovery period. There’s less noise, less pollution, and more animal sightings.
Spring has arrived, behaving as if she didn’t get the memo that there’s a new normal in the making. Just as always the days get longer and warmer. The leaves, bees, and pollen return in abundance. And the tulips still bloom.
Ah, tulips! My faaaaavorite flower. For as long as I can remember, traveling to Holland to see the fields in full bloom was a bucket list item. I got to mark this one off the list when I found myself lucky enough to be traveling through Amsterdam in 2018, at the height of the tulip growing season.
When these photos came up in my Facebook memories, it was a sobering moment as I recalled reading that Keukenhof is closed this year due to COVID-19. For the first time in 71 years, the park is closed to visitors.
Then, on my daily walk I saw this blooming tulip. It was a reminder that even when the world seems turned upside down, there are some things that remain constant and true. Nature is one of those things. It provides a measure of comfort, during these uncertain times, that all things in life are seasonal. And that this too, shall pass.
Stay home. Stay Safe.
