Brunch at Vana - South End
Vana is an intimate restaurant in South End that specializes in wood-fired meat dishes. The vibe is a mix of rustic and industrial, with an open kitchen as the centerpiece.
Drinks
The restaurant offers seasonal cocktails, along with wines and beers. Our selections were:
Royal Spritz - Gin, cranberry, prosecco
Christmas Vacation - Rum, aperol, pineapple, orange bitters
Food
The food was fantastic! Our food selections:
Steak and Eggs - Fried egg, chimichurri, horseradish
Grilled Cheese - Bacon, mozzarella, goat cheese, parmesan, house sourdough
Our server suggested we return for dinner to try the whole fish. I’m really looking forward to trying that in the near future.
Impressions
Being this close to the open kitchen gave the feeling of being in someone's home instead of a restaurant where all the cooking and prep usually takes place behind closed doors.
It was intriguing to watch our food being prepared in front of us from start to finish. Starting with watching the kitchen staff take my steak from this fridge next to our table back to the kitchen to let it rest before it was seasoned before being cooked. It was also cool to watch the chef experiment with a new dish.
If you're near South End, like grilled meats, and want a unique experience, VANA is worth a try.
