5 Easy Care Tips for Your Pearls

I was beaming with pride seeing all the pearl necklaces as I scrolled through my social media feeds this past week. Are you excited about wearing pearl necklaces again? Yeah, me too! Not only are they symbolic they're also timeless, classic, and versatile enough to complement almost any outfit.

I wear these small pearl earrings most days, but I usually keep my other pearl jewelry stored away for special occasions. Not anymore. I've been inspired to wear them more often. Wearing your pearls often is actually good for them. They will look better if worn regularly and they will last several lifetimes if maintained properly. Watch below to see 5 easy care tips to keep your pearls looking lustrous.

1. Wear them often.
Really! Pearls LIKE to be worn. They benefit from the natural oils and moisture on your skin. Wearing them regularly helps them keep their luster.

2. Last on. First off.
There's an order to things. When wearing pearls they go on last AFTER clothes, makeup, lotion, and perfume. When it's time to undress the pearls come off first.

3. Love on them.
After each wear, wipe your pearls with a soft cloth. This removes excess oil, dirt, and perspiration. Never submerge your stringed pearls in water. The pearls will be okay, but it frays and weakens the strings.

4. Speaking of strings.
Pay attention to when it's time to get your necklaces or bracelets restrung. I didn't do this and the string on my necklace broke unexpectedly while wearing them. The pearls scattered everywhere. I recovered them all except one. Next time better safe, than sorry.

5. Store them flat.
Store your pearls flat and separately from your other jewelry. Wrap in a soft material like satin, velvet, or cotton. Don't use plastic or airtight containers, either. Pearls are organic materials and need to breathe.

When properly cared for and maintained, pearl jewelry can last and be passed down for many generations.
