Closet Purge Regrets | Monochromatic Cabernet
As I was putting this outfit together, I was thinking how much nicer it would be if I'd still had the skinny leggings. I'd really wanted to go with the full monochromatic look and I was regretting that I had donated them as part of a closet purge.
These pieces are part of my cabarnet collection from WHBM that I started in 2014. At the time I fell in love with the color and started with the Marled Knit Poncho and the Ponte 5-Pocket Skinny Leggging. Each season I would continue to add pieces including this Chain-Detail V-Neck Top and this Fringe-Trim Cape that I'm wearing in the photos.
Then I reminded myself why I let them go in the first place. It's because the leggings no longer fit well. The were low rise that kept riding down. The ponte knit fabric had stretched out I couldn't wear them unless I rigged them up with a makeshift belt. They were also slim cut, which I've since learned does not work well with my body type.
It wasn't an easy decision to remove those leggings from my closet, but it was the right one. They no longer met the criteria I had set for building a wardrobe to stand the test of time. So, as much as I would have loved to be wearing those leggings in these photos, I'm much more at ease wearing these high rise jeans.
I'm no longer regretful about purging the leggings. I recognize that regret and buyers remorse are part of the learning process that comes with finding and cultivating your personal style. I'm also seeing how fun it is to evolve an outfit over time as pieces are added or removed to create new update looks.
