Believe! | A Thanksgiving Memory
The photo memory said ‘5 Years Ago’. As I clinked the link I was taken back to November 25, 2015, when the client for one of my projects asked me to work the Wednesday before Thanksgiving which meant being in NYC over the holiday. They were very appreciative that I was willing to sacrifice Thanksgiving with my family to help them out in a pinch. Secretly, I was thrilled about it because I was about to mark off an item from bucket list.
After work on Wednesday I headed to Central Park West to watch the balloons being inflated for the next day's parade.
After walking in what has to be the longest queue known to mankind, I got to see how the balloons come to life.
I spent the evening watching the lights of the Empire State building from my hotel room. I was staying in Herald's Square because I needed to be within walking distance of the next day's destination.
Growing up, watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade on tv was as much a part of Thanksgiving as eating turkey. I'd always wished I could be there to watch in person. Over the years I wasn't as faithful with watching it on tv, but that desire never left.
The best part was the company I worked for had an office on 7th Ave, just around the corner from the stage you see on tv.
It was a beautiful day and we had the windows open to watch the parade while eating quiche and drinking mimosas.
Flew home later that day. Ate my Thanksgiving dinner at the airport which was nearly deserted. It wasn't the traditional meal, but it was so satisfying to have spent the day doing something I had only dreamed of. 😌 #gratitude
Happy Thanksgiving,
