The Screwdriver | Classic Cocktails

The Screwdriver | Classic Cocktails

The Screwdriver is a classic cocktail that dates back to the mid twentieth century. Its popularity can be attributed to its simple ingredients and universal appeal.

The ingredients for a Screwdriver (vodka + orange juice) are widely available at bars, restaurants, or airplanes when traveling. Even the most basic at-home bar is likely to have what's needed on hand to make a Screwdriver.

The Basics

1 part vodka
2.5 parts orange juice
Serve over ice. Garnish with fruit slice

When it's so few ingredients, the quality of ingredients matter. You can infuse your own vodka (it's easier than you think). Or you can do as I did and use a flavored vodka like this Citron Absolut. The extra hint of citrus adds more depth and lift.

Choose an orange juice that you enjoy drinking on its own. No matter if the OJ is freshly squeezed or pulled from your grocer's shelves, you'll want to make sure it has very little to no pulp.

Variations

For a twist on the classic version, try these variations:

Orange Juice & Honey Screwdriver - Sweeten things up with a touch of honey. No honey? Substitute with a simple syrup.

A Fuzzy Screwdriver - It’s a combination of the classic screwdriver cocktail mixed with a fuzzy navel.

Harvey Wallbanger Cocktail Recipe - To kick things up a notch, try a Harvey Wallbanger

Traci
