Happy Birthday to Me

Today is my birthday. I woke up this morning thinking of my mom and smiling as I thought of past birthdays. When we were children, she'd bake our favorite cake. Mine was always yellow with chocolate icing.

In recent years, things flipped. She wasn't doing much baking so she'd call me a few days before my birthday to tell me what kind of cake she wanted me to bring HER for MY birthday. And it better not be from a store deli . 🤔😏😂

I will miss that. I'll also miss her calling me on my birthday to specifically tell me she didn't buy me a gift or to remind me that I'm getting up there in age. 🥴 If you knew my mom, you know this was just like her. Birthdays will never be the same.
