Let's Talk Derby

The Kentucky Derby is as much a social affair as it is a sporting event. There are many traditions surrounding the races. Here are a few of my favorites:

Timing - The Kentucky Derby takes place the 1st Saturday in May at Churchill Downs

Themed Parties -The pageantry of Derby parties is near and dear to my heart. Large gatherings are fun. But so are intimate at-home affairs.

The Attire - Pretty dresses, dapper suits, and fancy hats. What can be finer?

The Drinks - The mint julep is the official Derby cocktail. The Kentucky mule and Oaks Lily are alternatives.

The Food - If you're drinking Mint Juleps, you'll definitely need food alongside. Keep it simple with a few Southern classics.

The Sport - Oh yeah, there's also a horse race you can bet on.
